We used to live with my grandparents when I was very little. When I was

about 5 years old, my parents sent me elementary school. I used to cry at school

everyday if my mom wouldn’t go there with me. She had waited for me until my

class finished. One day a question came to my mind about teachers. I would see

them everyday from the beginning to ending of the school. I thought that they do

not have a house or family. I had been thinking that teachers used to live in school

everyday after class! I could not resist myself except asking one of my teachers

about this question. She had laughed a lot before she told me the real idea. She had

taught me that she is a human and every human has a family like me. It was really a

very funny story of my childhood.

Bangladeshi Culture is different from Canadian culture. In Bangladesh getting a boyfriend is a great shame. Parents hardly allow their children to marry a person except their permission. It seems very conservative to me. If we discuss body piercing, Bangladeshi girls only pierce their ears and nose. In order to get married a girl must pierce her nose. This is an important part of marriage. I think to introduce my culture I should indicate our marriage system. We arrange 4 events to finish wedding. The 1st event is engagement which is called "Pan-Chini" in Bengali. On that day groom's parents come to bride's house to put wedding ring on bride's hand. They also fix a date for Marriage. On the previous day of the wedding we have one more occasion called Bridal shower or "gaye Halud". In this occasion , all of the relatives gather to Bride's and groom's house to bless them a happy life by puting tarmaric pest on their skin and feeding them sweets. Tarmaric is a kind of root that is good for skin. We mash it with water to make it thick. Bride looks better if she put tarmaric on her face. She also draws "Mehendi" design on her palm on that day. The following day is the Wedding day. Every Bengali girl waits for this occasion eagerly. They are dressed with long, beautiful red dress which we call sharee. They also wear too much ornaments on that day. If bride doesn't wear heavy juwelary, it is thought as lower status in the society! During that day, Bengali people invite all relations and arrange great source of refreshments.
